Merry Misfits

So this week was my birthday and for me, once that has happened it is all downhill for Christmas!! I broke out the cutest stamp set from Tim Holtz called Merry misfits (available here https://www.crazycatsmixedmedia.com.au/collections/tim-holtz-stampers-anonymous/products/tim-holtz-stampers-anonymous-tattered-christmas), it has Santa, a reindeer and a Snowman that you can colour in as much or as little as you like. I paired it with a background plaid stamp (also from Tim Holtz) which I used the makeup brush and fired brick distress ink to colour.

I am still playing around with the final design but I believe it will be something similar to below with the snowflakes and one of the Christmas greetings from the stamp set. He is a bit cute old Santa, though I did end up colouring his boots in black.

Happy creating everyone.

A Birdie-full Time of the year

Today’s post shows one of Dina Wakley’s newer stamp sets which is so cute and great to use for all things Christmas (and still very versatile post Christmas). The set is called ‘Scribbly holiday birdie 2’.

I used the small Dina Wakley journal and painted on the evergreen paint and dried it, I then painted over the top with the lime paint sitting the leafy stencil on top of the wet pain and rubbing through the stencil with a baby wipe to leave the stencil impressions.

I dried this layer and set it aside whilst I located some old tags I had played with some time ago. I found tags that I had used some grit paste through a stencil on with some blue colouring, quite possibly the Lindy’s stamp gang magical powder, and a second no with red colouring from distress oxides. Onto these tags I stamped one of the birds and a Santa hat before enhancing the colours with Dina Wakley paints watered down in sky and lapis for the bird and ruby for the hat.

With the leftover lapis I also painted around the edge of the journal page to the it all together.Once dried I used a white large sharpie pen to colour the white parts of the hat before I ripped around the outline. I then assembled it and stuck the tags to the page and stamped the sentiment directly onto the page.

Today I finished a fun and interactive art journal page using Art by Marlene stamps, stickers, die cut elements, water colours and large journal. I removed one page from the journal using an offcut piece of watercolour paper to stamp the flowers on for the front of the flap. I decided where on the page I wanted the flap to lift from and drew a line in pencil for reference as well as drawing on the flap where the holes of the folder were so I could avoid them. I created masks for each of the flowers which I have stored in the zip pocket of my journal for future use.

After stamping the front of the flap I also Stamped directly onto the large page ensuring the stamp was above and below the line I had drawn in order to have some of the flowers appear on both sides of the flap.

Once everything had been stamps I loosely sat the flap onto my page and drew the bottom part of the vase shape, then removing the flap completed the vase and added the zigzag pattern. Using Art by Marlene watercolours I painted all the flowers and the vase, I had stamped the seahorse and bunny stamps on a seperate piece of paper and used the watercolours on those before cutting them out to stick on the underside of the flowers. The Marlene die cut elements were great to enhance the bouquet and the underside of the flap. Lastly I added stickles for some bling and stickers from the Art by Marlene collection.
